A long day but a great day! – Jay Mason

Our first day was a early start at 3 o’clock in the morning. We had to be at the airport at 430 in the morning for a 630 flight to Miami. From Miami we had a flight to Liberia, Costa Rica. We arrived in Playa Potrero in the early afternoon to be met by one of our guides Megan. We had a very good lunch at a local restaurant within walking distance of our hotel. After lunch we got to meet the kids for the first time. I didn’t really know what to expect but we were thrown into the swing of things, and it was a lot easier than expected. All the kids are so full of excitement  and ready to attack any task put in front of them. We started off playing board games and eventually moved on to soccer. They spanned from grades 1st to 9th and I was astounded at their ability to play soccer. It was very exciting to see the joy they got while playing a sport that they love. I’m really excited to see the role sports play in forming bonds with these kids as well as my friends here on this trip. Afterwards we got to go to the beach and watch the sunset which was a beautiful site. We ended the day with a great dinner with everyone there. I can’t wait to see what else this trip has in store for us! – Jay Mason
